Festival Schedule

Each instrumental program participant's daily/weekly schedule will differ, depending upon a variety of factors: age, musical ability, instrument, number of assigned chamber groups, participation in concerts, and personal goals. Composition and woodwind program schedules are determined by the program directors . We have a special message for parents of applicants under the age of 16.

Here is a basic overview:

  • Mornings: Mornings are typically set aside for individual lessons and practice. Masterclasses may also be scheduled during this time.
  • Afternoons: Chamber group coachings and practices are scheduled for weekday afternoons. Masterclasses, Artist of Tomorrow concerts, and Community Concerts may also be scheduled during this time.
  • Late Afternoons: In the late afternoon, many participants take advantage of the library, music library, and athletic facilities on the Bowdoin campus. Masterclasses, Artist of Tomorrow and Community concerts, and residential life activities may also be scheduled during this time.
  • Evenings: Artists of Tomorrow concerts are held several times each week in the new state of the art Studzinski Recital Hall with most participants performing at least once. Three artist concert series are held weekly: Monday Sonatas and Wednesday Upbeat! in Studzinski Recital Hall and Festival Fridays at Crooker Theater.
  • Weekends: On weekends and occasional afternoons, the residence life and activities staff organizes non-musical activities such as outings to area beaches, state parks, movies, and shopping (L.L. Bean etc.). Additional weekend activities are planned for younger students, including ice-cream socials, movie nights, soccer games, wiffle ball tournaments, etc. Masterclasses and Artists of Tomorrow and Bowdoin Festival Extra concerts may also be scheduled on weekends. The Gamper Festival of Contemporary Music is held on the Bowdoin Festival’s last full weekend each year.
