FACULTY: DOUBLE BASS
Kurt
Muroki : Adjunct Professor of
double bass at the Juilliard School, the New Jersey City University
and faculty/Artist in Residence at Stony Brook University.
A native of Maui, Hawaii, studied at the Juilliard School with Homer
R. Mensch. Regularly performing as guest artist with the Chamber
Music Society of Lincoln Center, Kurt has also performed with the
Tokyo Opera Nomori, Metropolitan Opera orchestra, Speculum Musicae,
Metamorphosen Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Sospeso, Brooklyn Philharmonic,
Saito Kinen Festival Orchestra, American Symphony Orchestra, New
York City Ballet, EOS Orchestra, Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra,
Marlboro Music Festival, Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival, International
Sejong Soloists, and the all bass ensemble "Low Expectations".
Mr. Muroki is also active playing movie music with past titles including
Intolerable Cruelty, The Departed, and The Good Shepherd. He has
won numerous competitions including 1st prize in the Aspen Music
Festival double bass competition, the first bassist to win the New
World Symphony concerto competition, and the Honolulu Symphony Young
Artists competition. He has performed chamber music concerts with
members of the Guarneri, Juilliard, Tokyo, Colorado quartets, Lynn
Harrell, Robert McDuffy, and Andre Watts among others. He has also
performed concerto tours throughout Asia and the United States.
