Ralph Fielding, Viola

Ralph Fielding previously taught at the University of Southern California, the University of California Los Angeles and Texas Tech University. He has given master classes at Oberlin College, the Cleveland Institute, DePaul University, the New England Conservatory, the San Francisco Conservatory, Rice University and the Colburn School and has been a judge for ASTA, MTNA, Suzuki, AVS/Primrose and other competitions.

He was a member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic viola section for more than a dozen years and has since helped students win positions in ICSOM and regional orchestras; he is also a regular viola coach at the New World Symphony.

Mr. Fielding specializes in quickly getting players to reach their highest potential through combining a singing approach to music-making with simple ways to master the basic mechanics of bow control, shifts, string crossings and bow changes.
