Emma Tahmiziàn, Piano
2010: Full 6 Week Session Performing Artist. Ms. Tahmiziàn's performances have been described as “stunning” and “a composer’s dream,” whether she plays Scarlatti, Brahms, or Ligeti. Her international career was launched when she won First Prize in the Schumann International Competition at nineteen and made her Berlin Debut. She has won prizes in the most coveted competitions, among them the Van Cliburn, Leeds, Tchaikovsky and Montreal, as well as J. S. Bach and Smetana, and is a Pro Musicis International Award winner. In wide variety of appearances as a recitalist, soloist with orchestras and chamber musician throughout Europe and North America, Ms. Tahmiziàn has garnered an international reputation for her tremendous scope of repertoire and affinity for contemporary music. Many composers have written and dedicated works to her. Ms. Tahmiziàn, who gave her first solo performance at the age of five and made her concerto debut at thirteen in her native Bulgaria, has appeared as soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Moscow and St. Petersburg Philharmonic, all the major Bulgarian orchestras, the Berlin Radio Symphony and the Brooklyn Philharmonic, and the Prague Chamber Orchestra. She has appeared at Great Performers at Lincoln Center, the 92nd Street Y, Washington’s Kennedy Center, Los Angeles’ County Museum of Art and Boston’s Jordan Hall. She is a guest at music festivals in North America and Europe and a long-standing member of the Bowdoin International Music Festival. Featured in MIDEM Classique with a Balkanton recording of Beethoven Sonatas, she has recorded for Koch International, New World Records, Premier Recordings, and a DVD for Bridge Records. Ms. Tahmiziàn has been featured in live radio and taped TV broadcasts on both continents. She holds MM Degrees both from the Bulgarian State Conservatory and Juilliard, and is a recipient of NYFA grants.
