EMPLOYMENT
SUMMER POSITIONS
Head Resident Assistant

SALARY

$1,500 for 6+ weeks - late June to early August. Room and board provided.

JOB SUMMARY

This is a live-in position. Head Resident Assistants (RA's) are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week from late June through early August, supervising students (who range in age from 13 to 21+) and student RA's. RA's must enforce festival alcohol, noise, party, curfew, and emergency procedure policies. RA's will hold weekly meetings, accompany students to meals, and provide rigorous supervision of all students. Duties include checking students in and out at the beginning and end of each three-week session; organizing and engaging in activities with students; being available in the residence halls, cafeteria, and student life office; driving students to activities and concerts; knowing where students are; ensuring that all Bowdoin International Music Festival policies and rules are being followed; and providing occasional staff support in the student life office during daytime hours.

EDUCATION/SKILLS

Some college education required. Must have strong interpersonal communication, problem solving, supervisory, and mediating skills. Must be able to handle emergencies appropriately. Must hold a valid USA drivers license. Must be proficient in English.

EXPERIENCE

Should be at least 21 years old. Must have experience supervising students (i.e. camp counselor, dorm proctor, resident assistant, teacher, etc.)

CONTACTS

Extensive contact with festival students ranging in age from 12 to 40 from many different cultures. May have contact with parents of students. Limited contact with festival faculty.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to engage in the same activities as students throughout the summer. Must be able to move about easily on campus and on student trips, and to drive a 10-passenger van.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Most of the work will be in the assigned house or residence hall and on campus. In addition, RA's must attend concerts and be on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the duration of the Festival. RA's must be prepared to deal with emergency situations at all times including evenings and weekends.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Supervise student RA's in Head RA's residence hall; supervise festival students. In addition to having full responsibility for the students in their buildings, RA's have the responsibility and authority to supervise any festival student at any time (i.e. at concerts, on trips, at festival gatherings, in the cafeteria).
